7.49  The first Sea Serpent broke through the wave, maw opened wide. The dolphins dragged the ship onwards as a Nelgaunt and smaller serpent turned to fight. Seve lifted a hunting spear, the rope fastened around his waist and leapt into the waves as the glowing monkey, Erek—took the wheel. The World’s Pact fled even as the Hundredfriends fought, returning to the ship as blood colored the waters. Theirs and the serpent’s.
7.49  “The cure must reach Talenqual. We have sworn it, Erek.”
7.49  “…If it comes to it, Erek, cling to Arveil’s back. He might flee.”
7.49  The wind spell ran out. The World’s Pact slowed. Seve drew the enchanted dagger he carried as a backup. Erek made a hooting sound and slapped his chest as the serpents roared.
7.49  The Courier raised an arm as the two shapes landed and the water created another wave that swept his ship. Erek twisted the wheel; Seve felt them cresting a wave. He saw the serpent fighting—and then a second bone-fish emerge from the waves. It rammed into another serpent.
7.49  Who had called them? The Courier didn’t know. But he and his companions were celebrating. Erek actually jumped ship to swing himself up onto the [Druid]’s bone-ship, with his endless curiosity. The two ships flanked the World’s Pact as they conjured a current to speed them forwards.
7.49  Seve was honestly confused. He had expected other ships. But not the [Sea Druids]. Their leader gave him a grave look as he examined Erek’s opened mouth; the ape had a toothache.
7.51  “That’s Erek. I’d let him out, but he’d destroy your…hospital. He’s too intelligent for his own good and too strong as well.”
7.51  “I think Erek’s as intelligent as they get. He can’t properly speak, but he can play chess, sail the boat, and even use magical artifacts. Not that it’s wise to hand him a wand. And he’s strong as a Gemlion. Can other Orangutans do that?”
7.51  Geneva didn’t actually know, but it sounded like Erek might be a prime example of his species either way. Seve scratched at his head.
7.51  Geneva jumped slightly, and so did Seve, but she saw Erek race up Seve’s arm and hide behind the Nelgaunt and a few other larger animals. She smiled at that.
8.15  “Huh. You know, there’re not many Drowned Folks here. I suppose it’s hard to play this game on the water. Always feels a bit land-biased to me, though, don’t you think, Erek?”
8.15  Seve waited, watching the splendid little diversion on the scrying orb with Erek, the glowing orangutan bound to him by magical tattoos.
Interlude – Mundanity and Memorials  The orangutan, Erek, waved as Ryoka, flustered, tried to bow, hug Sammial, and speak at the same time.
Interlude – Mundanity and Memorials  Erek! Sorry, that’s my companion.”
Interlude – Mundanity and Memorials  Erek held Ryoka’s hand and tugged her down the gangplank. Seve scolded him, but Ryoka’s smile was actually genuine. Sammial called out.
Interlude – Mundanity and Memorials  The Wandering Inn was in uproar. Hilarity, disbelief, resignation…Mrsha was demanding to know what Erek was. She had never seen a monkey before! She was confused why Ryoka was friends with the evil Lord Tyrion and who that annoying boy was!
Interlude – Trade and Travel  “Shut up, Erek! I am sorry, Your Majesty. Erek wanted to see, but I apologize for his—”
Interlude – Trade and Travel  “Shut up, Erek! I am sorry, Your Majesty. Erek wanted to see, but I apologize for his—”
Interlude – Trade and Travel  The Hundredfriends’ companion was a summoned being, a glowing tattoo on his arm. Erek, the Orangutan, squatted on his long limbs, staring around Khelt’s palace with great entertainment. But even he sensed Seve’s dismay and ooked aggressively at Fetohep.
