7.33 I So the Gnolls were used to the climb and those of a certain rank tended to walk together and talk as they climbed. Alrric saw the other fellow Gnolls—mostly [Consultants], [Secretaries], or [Accountants] in bureaucratic classes like his—glancing at him. They were all well-dressed. Few as well as he was; the Gnoll was wearing a custom-tailored suit, his fur was a matte chestnut; oiling one’s fur was a bit too sycophantic and it made things sticky, but extremely well-combed.
Interlude – The Pets of Innworld She was still gone. On her trip that only Laken knew about. Hemlag was an [Accountant], and a good one, so he was part of Rie’s ‘faction’.
Interlude – The Pets of Innworld They all arrived, the [Accountant] being first, and nervous to be included in the group, but Laken’s order of business was simple.
8.30 It did indeed. Yelroan hadn’t gained the [Mathematician] class at first. He’d become a [Scribe], an [Accountant]…then, as he was appointed to calculating the entire clan’s income, managing supplies, and such, he’d morphed into the [Mathematician] class, rather than [Administrator] or some reasonable class.
8.30 “You could have been a [Manager] or [Accountant] or something. Why [Mathematician]?”
8.36 H The leader was yawning and checking the [Accountant]’s figures and grimacing. She glanced up as she leaned on the other woman.
8.36 H He pressed his lips together. The [Enforcement Raider] took a step forwards—reconsidered as the villagers lifted their weapons—and went back to the [Accountant].
8.36 H Novethur was glancing at the other [Villagers]. He was listening to the numbers the [Accountant] was muttering and they were not pleasant ones to imagine paying. On the other hand, she wasn’t aware of the half-Elf hiding in his home. Ceria could gift them enough gold to more than make up for this extortion. So Novethur lowered his spear, signalling for the others to do the same. He made up his mind. Fighting was a last resort, and if they were from where he thought, and if their ‘boss’ was truly…
8.53 FH The nervous other woman was an [Accountant]. You had to have them. To count things. She was afraid, most likely because she’d heard what happened to the last woman who’d made a costly mistake.
8.53 FH The Siren of Savere didn’t bother addressing the issue. The last [Accountant] had been embezzling money; that’s why she got what she deserved, but she didn’t tell the newcomer that. She didn’t waste lives.
8.53 FH The [Accountant] rushed to open her ledger.
8.53 FH The [Accountant] clapped her mouth shut. Revine rubbed at her forehead. She had a headache. She was a [Bandit Lady] and thus technically Revine’s follower.
8.53 FH Revine slapped the table. The [Accountant] jumped. The Siren turned.
8.53 FH You could still see the last [Accountant] the Siren of Savere had employed. Well…parts of her. She was hanging from the docks.
8.53 FH The Siren watched long enough to see someone grab Ureita…and perhaps that was why she hadn’t drowned and floated. But her head turned, and Omusc and the two [Corruptors] were reminded of something as they stared at the docks where the old [Accountant] was still being pecked at.
Interlude – Satar Get a [Secretary of War] or [Strategist] for that! Sometimes it hurt Yelroan, feeling like a glorified [Accountant]. But then he saw how Xherw prized him, and how he showed up [Mages] and [Chieftains] and all those other classes with applied mathematics.
8.79 “You can put any spells on me and review the data yourself, sir. Anyone can. The numbers do not lie. If you want the truth don’t call for truth spells—you can falsify those. Call for [Scribes]! [Accountants] from Drake cities! Call for people who understand numbers and look at the records! Plain’s Eye has been—lucky these last generations. So lucky it is beyond belief. I have noticed it—we are the richest tribe, the most plentiful by far because of the unnatural luck conferred to us.”
9.25 Barnethei stepped back and whispered with the [Bartender]. She was an interesting class—you couldn’t just be a [Bartender] in this room. Roreen was actually a former [Accountant] who had run with the Merchant’s Guild for a while. Thanks to that, she never missed an order served.
10.07 “Please wait for our [Accountant] to make sure that’s an accurate sum and do the counting. Gemstone prices fluctuate, and he’ll have to check the gold coins…you know how it is. Pardon the rush folks; we have a schedule to keep.”
10.14 If he had an entire team of [Secretaries], [Accountants], [Couriers], or just a hundred [Knights] like Dalimont and Ushar, he might have managed to spread enough gold around the world. But he didn’t.
10.23 LMGY Thousands of them. The Golems began piling them up so fast that Moltin had gone for a sandwich when he came back and saw a pile of identical coins. He grabbed every servant and lesser [Accountant] and [Scribe] he could and got to work.
10.37 GDI (Pt. 1) In truth, an [Accountant] might be more accurate. Someone who might smile at the numbers, but who was calculating with spreadsheets. They didn’t get to put a finger on a character’s actions to give them a boost or interfere with the roll of the dice. They were on everyone’s side and no one’s. They were not supposed to be on any one person’s side more than others, and if they gave up that impartiality, well…that would be bad.
