10.32 (Pt. 2) | Redscar leapt. He cut twice at Pawn, and the [Apostle] didn’t move. The blades glanced off his carapace, and Redscar pivoted. The Goblins of Rags’ bodyguard, Shineshield, Fightipilota, all of them, charged. |
10.32 (Pt. 2) | Chieftain Rags was gone. So was the real Mrsha. They were gone, and half the Goblins of the Flooded Waters tribe were ready to leap into the door after them. The other half wanted to kill Pawn, but his Painted Antinium were surrounding the [Apostle] now. And—Redscar held his sword out as Shineshield lifted a bow. |
10.32 (Pt. 2) | She flung it at his face, and the [Apostle] opened his mouth. The insect of his rage never left his body. There was nothing there. |
10.32 (Pt. 2) | The [Apostle] wagged a finger at them and chuckled. |
10.33 MNK | He raised his club overhead, and with it, he could split the walls of a fortress. His holiest warriors stood around Pawn, and the [Apostle]’s eyes were glowing. Those two eerie pupils swivelled right and left as the Painted Antinium clicked their mandibles and lifted their weapons in reverence and determination. |
10.33 MNK | “If my daughter is dead, I will obliterate that [Apostle] and this entire place. No one will survive. Not you, Rhisveri, not that Titan if he somehow pops out of another door. I hope, earnestly, he doesn’t force me to it.” |
10.33 MNK | Lyonette du Marquin, nineteen years old, lifting a burning weapon in her hands. Her clothing was aflame, and she was dying, arrows sticking out of her eyes. The [Apostle] raised his hands to stop her, and the final flare of light engulfed them both. |
10.33 MNK | Pawn recoiled from the vision and stumbled. His sermon petered out, and the Antinium started. The [Apostle] checked himself, but he knew this. |
10.35 (Pt. 1) | The One Saved did not let go. He was the largest of the Painted Antinium, the strongest. He had been told Heaven rested on him holding the root, and so he would not let go for anything. But he told the Painted Antinium marching through to fetch the [Apostle]. The tip of the crack in reality was almost at the roof beams, now, and bits of wood kept falling into the [Palace of Fates], chipped away from the inn’s ceiling. |
10.35 (Pt. 1) | She was rapidly separating herself from his affection for his Lyonette. The [Apostle] interrupted her. |
10.35 (Pt. 1) | The [Apostle] recoiled, and the two Lyonettes locked gazes. The younger Lyonette skidded to a halt; like Selys, she had on a bathing suit, but her face was bloodless. |
10.35 (Pt. 1) | The [Apostle]’s head turned, and all his thoughts ended. The real Lyonette swayed. |
10.35 (Pt. 1) | He played dumb for a second. Then Pawn swung his club, and Az’kerash dodged backwards, nearly going through the door again. The [Apostle] saw both Lyonettes stumbling, realized no one saw what he did, and spoke. |
10.35 (Pt. 2) | He was pointing down at the [Soldiers] of Rhir and Painted Antinium. Pawn had halted. Even the [Apostle] of the Painted Antinium hesitated, faced with the most powerful [King] and his seven mightiest vassals. Flos Reimarch’s hair actually rose in delight as he raised a sword overhead, sweeping it forwards to call a charge. |
10.35 (Pt. 2) | Painted Antinium were kneeling on the ground. Curled up. A motionless [Apostle] stood there, the illumination of his faith winked out. |
10.35 (Pt. 2) | He came out of his trance as the Goblin King drew a sword and swung it at him. The [Apostle]’s club met the sword—and the Goblin King recoiled slightly as thunder rolled down the hallway. |
10.35 (Pt. 3) | The [Apostle]’s light was harsh. The Crone saw the first Antinium coming towards her, a mace in hand. It struck at her, and she touched the arm of the Antinium. She pulled the soul from the Painted Soldier’s body, or tried. |
10.35 (Pt. 3) | For them, there was no salvation. But truly, Pawn no longer saw it for anyone. He turned as a single figure raced past him, but the [Apostle] was too weary to stop the Goblin King. |
10.35 (Pt. 3) | The [Apostle] was here. Great. Mrsha raised her head as Pawn came towards her. |
10.35 (Pt. 3) | Nothing happened. Fighti stared down hopefully at Mrsha, then at Pawn. The [Apostle] stood there, and they realized his eyes had stopped shining. |
10.35 (Pt. 3) | A world even vaster than this one. Then Pawn’s labored breathing drew Mrsha’s attention away from the door. The [Apostle] struggled to wrestle the door open wider. He was panting, mandibles open, but his eyes found Mrsha, lying there. |
10.35 (Pt. 3) | Last of all from their world was a wounded Raskghar, who paused, sniffing the air, then bounded through the door on all fours. And behind it…an [Innkeeper] halted in front of the [Apostle]. |
10.35 (Pt. 3) | The Erin Solstice from Brunkr’s world halted when she saw the [Apostle] standing in the doorway. He was so different from the Pawn she knew. The same in body, but his eyes—they were glowing faintly. The Antinium’s arms wobbled as an [Innkeeper] skidded to a halt. Erin Solstice faltered as she saw the open door beyond. |
10.35 (Pt. 3) | Her fingers touched his face, and his arms wobbled. The [Apostle] jerked his head away from her as the door closed slightly, and he forced it back open. |
10.35 (Pt. 3) | Erin Solstice stood before the [Apostle], timid and uncertain, fingers extended to touch him. He couldn’t move a single hand to hold hers; every scrap of his being was devoted to keeping the door open. Pawn panted at her. |
