Chapter Text
1.37 Cervial Dermondy, adventurer. Captain of the Flawless Flights, a Silver-rank team. I’m a [Ranger] by trade, scouting out these new ruins that were just discovered. Pleased to meet you, Miss…?”
1.37 Cervial and Goeln had been talking about their grievances with travelling so far to get to Liscor. It seemed everything from wagons breaking down to people getting lost had plagued their caravan, and they’d also found almost all of the inns in the city crowded to the rafters, much to their displeasure.
1.37 Goeln leapt out of his chair. Cervial’s mouth was open so wide he could have inhaled an Acid Fly. Ten of them.
1.37 Cervial looked so horrified Erin began to get a sense that maybe she had been way too informal with the woman. She gulped.
1.37 Erin’s smile froze on her face as she stared at the [Merchant]. He hadn’t even tried to lower his voice. She sensed rather than saw the other Drakes sitting at nearby tables slowly glance over at her and the other two Humans. They didn’t seem to notice, nor had Cervial done more than glance at his companion—he hadn’t said a word. Neither had Erin but…
1.38 They didn’t like Drakes or Gnolls. Humans. And now that Erin knew that and heard the way Cervial and Goeln talked about Drakes and Gnolls—or at least Goeln—she understood why the feeling was mutual.
1.47 R She glanced at Cervial, the [Archer Captain], for confirmation that she was on-track with his proposal and got a nod.
1.47 R Calruz nodded emphatically, but the others didn’t appear convinced. Cervial leaned forwards and addressed the table at large.
1.47 R “Impatience and daring, Cervial. I was excited as the rest of you when I heard about the ruins. But you’re right. I am moving fast, but not because Calruz managed to talk me into it. I heard there’s a team of Gold-rank adventurers who’ll be here in a week or less.”
1.47 R Cervial hesitated.
1.47 R This came from Cervial. He was thinking, stroking the handle of his bow thoughtfully as he spoke.
1.47 R “Don’t be stupid, Cervial. You can’t expect these ruins to be the same.”
1.47 R Cervial shook his head at Menes—the [Mage] was appalled, but the other captains were listening hard.
1.47 R Calruz leaned forwards and addressed Cervial.
1.47 R Yvlon winced, and Menes shook his head, pushing himself back from the table. Calruz was no negotiator. But Cervial didn’t seem to have taken much offense. He studied Calruz and then asked a question.
