Chapter Text
1.03 She poked the fish and tried to think of something to make. She had no fire, no other ingredients aside from blue fruit. The [Innkeeper]’s lips moved soundlessly for a second.
1.06 “Levels? Oh. No. I’ve got levels in, uh, [Innkeeper].”
1.06 “And you’re an [Innkeeper], right? Got any other classes?”
1.06 “Um. I gained levels just from cleaning an inn. And I wasn’t an [Innkeeper] before this. So why…?”
1.07 “Seriously. They were so normal. But apparently I’m normal too. There are other Humans around here at least. But leveling? Classes? Am I an [Innkeeper]? Do I innkeep? How does that work?”
1.07 He just hoped the [Innkeeper] wouldn’t stay up waiting for him.
1.08 “How astute. She’s quite intelligent for an [Innkeeper].”
1.08 “My apologies, good [Innkeeper], for all these misunderstandings. Please accept this recompense for your wasted time.”
1.08 “It’s not mine. I just found it and somehow became an [Innkeeper] by cleaning up around here.”
1.09 The [Innkeeper] actually turned around blankly.
1.09 “That’s quite useful! Most craftsman and artisan classes get that early on. I guess [Innkeepers] are sorta like that, right? Got to take care of the inn, repair windows, fix tables, and all that.”
1.09 “Ah. I see the good [Innkeeper] holds a grudge. Well, I’m not sure what she told you two, but I assure you, I have compensated her more than adequately for my…mistake. It’s nothing two soldiers need concern themselves with.”
1.10 True, she was an [Innkeeper]. Or at least, she kept an inn relatively clean. But that didn’t make her feel better.
1.10 Erin froze, but Klbkch clacked his mandibles after a second. He stared at Erin for a long moment, then at Pisces, then slowly sheathed his swords. He met the [Innkeeper]’s desperate gaze—then nodded.
1.10 “…I believe I am incorrect. Relc, the Watch has no authority here. This is an independent inn, and the [Innkeeper] is allowed to deny our authority here.”
Interlude – The Great Ritual The [Innkeeper] had saved his life. And kicked him out of her inn, but she had also fed him. Despite extorting a high price after…he had attempted to rob her. She was unlike anyone he had met. He owed her a debt, perhaps. But the real question he asked himself was where she had come from. Why didn’t she know what a [Mage] was compared to a [Sorcerer]?
1.11 Maybe. It was probably the [Innkeeper] class. However, it was the only class she had. Erin just hoped she didn’t change to meet the class.
1.11 “An [Innkeeper], is it? Are you opening up a business here? Humans almost never move to Liscor. I’m Selys, by the way. I should have said so from the start. My apologies.”
1.15 “They are worthy skills. Unusual for the [Innkeeper] class, but not unheard of.”
1.18 Erin saw Krshia glancing her way as she produced a bar of soap. The [Innkeeper] fidgeted. She knew it sounded like bragging, but—she coughed into her hand.
1.21 “See, that’s not too good. If you were in the city, I’d say you should get apprenticed to another [Innkeeper]until you’re at least Level 15. It might take a year or two, but then you’d have a few good skills to run your inn with. And I wouldn’t have an inn that far away from the city to begin with.”
1.25 Intriguing. The [Innkeeper] was speaking to Olesm, who was fiddling with the chess board, and she was giving instructions to him and Klbkch, but also the inn at large.
1.25 After all—this made sense to them. It was just numbers and patterns, and the [Innkeeper] had played with them.
1.25 Or some variation of that in level and Skills. Yet the [Innkeeper] flopped into her makeshift bed in the kitchen and closed her eyes and slept.
1.29 Flies! The other Workers who marched with them listened to these loud…thoughts. Flies? They imagined the crunch, and the twelve Workers had played a game of chess. With an [Innkeeper] who gave them ‘blue fruit juice.’
