| 3.37 | “They used magic. When they were captured, the surviving bandits said that they’d used a [Sleep] spell on the road. Apparently they took him unawares, before he knew they were there. It’s rare that a Courier doesn’t have magical items to ward against such spells, but—” |
| 3.37 | Ryoka’s hand had gone over her mouth when the woman mentioned the [Sleep] spell. When the [Receptionist] got to the part about magical items Ryoka threw up. |
| 1.05 D | “I think—they were hit by a [Sleep] spell. Or something. But they won’t wake up. Can you—can you check on them? Make sure they’re alright?” |
| 5.54 | “A neat spell. I was impressed that you got even the big Drake. May I ask what spell it was? Some kind of empowered [Sleep] spell?” |
| 5.54 | “Not [Sleep]. A higher-Tier variation on the spell that involves a living vector. [Mites of Slumber]. A fine spell to use on the unwary. Even Gold-rank adventurers are not unsusceptible to its effects. Although I imagine Halrac might have noticed even in his sleep.” |
| Interlude – Krshia | “—thick-headed idiots! How did you not resist a [Sleep] spell? How did you miss the [Mage] who cast it? I should tie rocks to all of your tails and toss you into the lake for the Rock Crabs to eat! Give me one reason why I shouldn’t stab you all to death for failing to guard—” |
| 6.01 | “[Sleep].” |
| 6.22 D | “Only in chess, Yerra. But you’re right. In this game, as you know, I’ve set only one rule: no one gets hurt. And by hurt, I mean, no one dies or suffers permanent injury. You can knock someone out, put them under a [Sleep] spell, use confusion magic, illusions—I draw the line at shooting someone in the legs with arrows because accidents happen, and blood’s so damned hard to wash away—but everything short of that is fine. So cheat away. You’ll need to.” |
| 6.57 | “[Black Shroud]. [Sleep]. [Sticky Webs]—” |
| 6.59 | “You know, she has nightmares. Almost every night, unless she uses a [Sleep] spell. Or a [Calm] spell or something. I heard it from Palt.” |
| 6.64 | No one had heard her screams. Her rooms were warded. Montressa knew to cast the spell each night in case she dreamed of the past. She was too afraid to sleep again. So she just sat there, too afraid to cast a [Sleep] spell. |
| 7.44 | “Valceif was killed by some no-name [Bandits] with a [Sleep] spell. He’s dead. My son. All that time…he would have eclipsed me. He would have been a great Courier. He already was, at his age! What am I supposed to do with this fury? It’s not for you. It’s wasted on you.” |
| Interlude – Saliss the Adventurer | Chaldion, [Grand Strategist] of Pallass, was monitoring the events as they unfolded in real-time. They had [Scrying] spells, after all, and unlike most modern enemies, their foes were magically deficient. It should have been ridiculously easy to win against a foe that couldn’t resist a basic [Sleep] spell. |
| 7.59 | Someone tumbled out of her room and clashed down the stairs. A Gnoll, who’d fallen asleep with the help of a [Sleep] spell, woke, and raced after Erin. |
| 8.13 F | “Yep. I’ll cast [Sleep].” |
| 8.13 F | Only two things had saved Fierre that night. The first was the [Mage] failing to reapply the [Paralysis Touch] and trusting to [Sleep] instead. She’d not been completely immobilized by the first spell, but they could have killed her. She’d gathered her strength as the spell quickly wore off to kill him. |
| 8.22 HE | Well. Ducaz hadn’t dared get close, but he’d ordered his people to strip Yvlon naked and search the place. Which they had, right before [Sleep]-spelling her into the next world. She had just enough time for them to find the artifacts she’d hidden in the floorboards, the bag of holding she’d tried to toss out of the window just to spite them, and everything else. |
| 8.38 H | If he had remained at Wistram, he would have learned extensive anti-enchantment spells for moments like this. As it was, [Charm of Thoughts] would give him a bit of an edge on [Sleep], [Confusion], or other spells. He’d learned it after Albez. [Detect Magic] might let him see a spell activating. |
| 8.38 H | “Enough. Sleep, Rophir. [Sleep].” |
| 8.41 | It was so comfy. Clearly enchanted to make you just nod off. She wondered if there was an actual [Sleep] enchantment on the covers. Ryoka just wanted to lie there and not face reality. Everything was easier in abstract. |
| Interlude – The Competition | A screaming [Sailor] was trying to behead her crewmates. Her eyes were wild with blank fury, and she slashed forwards, heedless of them battering at her and trying to grab the sword from her. She stabbed a screaming Lizardfolk in the leg—then the [Duelist] disarmed her. He cracked her head across the deck once—then recoiled as she kept trying to bite at him. She finally fell over as Yerwite cast [Sleep]—but more of the berserk haze and acid was drifting down. Then—explosions as Shifthold changed the alchemical weapons they were throwing. |
| 9.38 TV (Pt. 2) | Montressa’s room was next to hers, and it was past midnight as the Archmage worked until she was tired enough for a [Sleep] spell to take effect without delay. She was glaring at a piece of metal she was bending so that it would lock into place unless you removed it— |
| 9.38 TV (Pt. 2) | “[Sleep].” |
| Interlude – Levels | He played another game—and then on a hunch, called for another [Tactician] and played a serious game against them—then two more. Thelican actually demanded [Sleep] spells cast, and when all four awoke and reported no levels… |
| 9.51 Z | Zail let it lie, and presently he stood up. He could no longer hear Laudire crying. Perhaps they’d used a calming tonic or [Sleep] spell. Linvios sat there for a moment, then got up as well. |
| 9.69 H (Pt. 1) | “Okay, I’m going to ignore that because it sounds insane. If you got there once, let’s put you to sleep—I’ll cast [Sleep]. Unless you have more mana, Pisces? And how about this? You get them to send, I dunno, an army to burn through the Bloodfields and find the gate if there is one. Tell them to get Valeterisa, uh…Ilvriss, and Chaldion on the job. Halrac and Jelaqua to reinforce. Got it?” |
| 10.14 | “Pathetic. I can see we’re going nowhere. Why don’t you [Sleep] and I’ll just sort this out? I should have just done that anyways. But the entire inn’s a damn bag of holding…and if it’s in that garden…” |
| The Roots (Pt. 2b) | She went to sleep, expecting to wake up to good news, but with that sensation in her heart of hearts that made her toss and turn, even when she cast [Sleep] on herself. |
| 10.24 E | “I’m fine, Ulvama. Don’t cast a [Sleep] spell on me.” |
| 10.37 GDI (Pt. 1) | “Everyone hates Couriers. But few people can cast [Sleep] on a high-level Courier at range. Let alone who’d know I had potentially lost my magical protection against it. My mother’s kicked the hells out of everything. Even the Bloodfeast Raiders. But for this, I’d have died.” |
